Having said goodbye to our two Intern students at the end of June we are slowly making progress and getting into a routine with the admin side of things and learning how to use new software!

WALX Guide training
With the number of regular walkers growing and our continued desire to ensure that everyone can walk when they want, we have been delighted to support Lindsay through the WALX Guide training. This will enable us to manage larger groups with differing fitness capabilities where we need to ‘split’ the group but also offers a potential longer-term option of adding additional WALX.
We currently have one other WALX Guide, Pam who runs our Friday morning session.
If anyone else is interested, I would be happy to have a chat on what is involved and I am sure that Lindsay will also be happy to share her experience.
Thanks to Anne for her testimonial which will be shared in the next week or so. We love hearing about your personal experiences so if you would like to get involved, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, we would love to hear from you.
Testimonials are posted on our social media channels and our website.
Justine and Rajneet left a good platform from which we could continue, with our social media platforms, primarily Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. We are pleased to see that our number of followers has creeped up again in July – good to know that we haven’t blown all their hard work!
We are also hoping to increase our presence on LinkedIn as we look to spread the reach of WALX on The Chase, encouraging people to get out of their office or home office and into the great outdoors.
Another legacy from Justine and Rajneet was our first Facebook live broadcast. It is still available if you have some spare time. Having now done one I can honestly say we will try and make any future ones more interesting, shorter and limited to a specific subject.
A warm welcome goes out to Suzanne, Chris and Oksana who were awarded their Freedom Passports in July. We look forward to having you join us on some of our walks.
Bring a Friend for Free
We are happy to continue offering the Bring a Friend for Free in August so if you have a friend who you think would benefit from or enjoy Nordic Walking but they are anxious about attending on their own, contact us and we will add a special open session. Please ask them to register and complete the Health Assessment and we can then registered them on a walk.
We have added some Wellness WALX to our schedule. These walks start and finish at Birches Valley, Marquis Drive Visitor Centre, or Milford Common where there are toilets and refreshments available before and after the class. The walk will generally be around 1 hour and be no more than 2 miles on flat terrain or mild undulations but certainly no big hills. It’s an opportunity to enjoy the scenery and nature available, whether it be on the open heathlands or in the forests across the Chase with time to share the experiences with other like-minded people. During the walk we will pause for a period to incorporate some balance work, flexibility and strength exercises. Great for those who are getting back into exercise, have a health condition or simply want to move well and be fit for life!
Total Body WALX
Having completed the training for Total Body WALX we will be trialling a session on Saturday 14 August at 10:30. This type of walk will encourage additional exercise to compliment Nordic Walking. If you would like to understand more, please come and join us.
What Motivates you? We would love to hear what motivates you and what additional support we could offer. Please feel free to drop us a private message or email.
Walk of the Month
July’s Walk of The Month was The Nessie Challenge on Saturday 17 July. Luckily most of the hills were in the shade. The heatwave was in full swing and those of you who were able to take part were rewarded in the knowledge of having completed the challenge in the most extreme of conditions.
We will be completing the second half of the Rugeley to Cannock Slowways route on Sunday 15 August. We will start and finish at Marquis Drive having surveyed the route to the centre of Cannock. The walk is free and open to anyone who would like to join us with or without poles. Starting at 8.00 am the walk is approximately 8 miles and should take us just under 3 hours. Please book via our website in the usual way. We will be making notes to feedback to the Slowways project.
Hope to see you soon!
